Ari Up ...in heaven

A friend of mine passed away on Wednesday morning and I haven't known what to say.

I miss you, Ari.

(That's Ari and me in front, Pablo behind Ari, and Wilton behind me. Disneyland 2007)

Rest in peace. <3

Exquisite Beauty

Speaking of LACMA... This Sunday, October 24th, I'll be at LACMA at 2:00PM for Exquisite Beauty: In Search of the Delicate Techniques of Goryeo Buddhist Painting in Brown Adutorium. It's FREE.

LACMA Jazz

Every once in a while I meet an LA resident who doesn't know about the incredible Jazz at LACMA, or worse, someone who doesn't feel the need to join me. The music is amazing!!

Happy Gobbledigook!!

This doesn't need an introduction, does it? I love Sigur Ros and I especially love seeing Bjork and Jonsi on the same stage rocking out and having a blast. Happiness =

Can this moment be recreated with me in the audience, please?

Hungry for Film!

These movies are delicious!

Chuck Close

My BA is in Fine Art and in school I learned about Chuck Close. He is my favorite living artist. (My favorite dead artist is Matisse, though he may be tied with Rodin, who's sculptures I love to draw and paint from.) Here I am with Chuck Close at a book signing (11/19/05):

When my friend took the photo, he told Chuck just how much I love his work. His response was "maybe you should get a life." ...I think he was joking and being modest at the same time, but in case he wasn't, I'm glad I didn't go with my own idea for a joke of showing up in a wedding dress. ...It's just a joke. I like his paintings. I'm not a stalker.

Kiki Smith was sitting next to him, but I wasn't familiar with and didn't see her work in the gallery until after the signing. She was so friendly! Now I'm kicking myself for not having her book signed as well. She's so cool!

Kula

I took a lot of flower photos while I was on Maui in September. Here are three that I got really excited about. We were outside of Kula Lodge and it was sprinkling at the time.

Speaking of Kula Lodge, here is the pizza oven. (Delicious)

And, when it isn't sprinkling,  you can dine outside overlooking central Maui with the Pacific on both sides!

Kula is known for lush greenery. Many restaurants on the island have "Kula Greens" on the menu at least once and they're good. (Kula is a great location for a cabin.)

Young Hearts Run Free

I'm having a really hard time trying to express how much I LOVE this. I play it on repeat and sing along.

Breathe Owl Breathe

One of my favorite bands. I get pretty nervous in live music situations because of my lack of rhythm... not with Breathe Owl Breathe. They'll make you laugh while giving you chills.

I wouldn't even know about them if it weren't for my favorite blog, When You Awake. <3

Modern Handcraft

These wooden necklaces are carved to fit the contours of your neck/shoulders. They're BEAUTIFUL, as is the presentation. If I could afford it, I would rock the piece below:

weeHouse

It's hard for me to express how badly I want a prefab from Alchemy architects. ...I WILL have one too. You just wait!

Cabinology

Cabinology: I lived in a cabin in a redwood forest for three years (2003-2006) while I was an Art major at UCSC. A large portion of my soul developed in that cabin. I fostered sick cats for the Santa Cruz SPCA, painted, drew, studied health food, hiked, read, listened to records, and became known by my landlords as "Cabin Girl."
